Failing to meet project deadlines is a fairly common problem these days. One of the chapters in Eliyahu M. Goldratt\u2019s book *The Critical Chain*, titled \u201cCauses of Delays,\u201d begins with the sentence: \u201cThe topic of today\u2019s class,\u201d I said in a calm voice, \u201cis the size of the safety margin that employees assume when planning each task in a project.\u201d <\/p>

              The idea of performing more than one activity at the same time. When we focus on two tasks at once, the quality of our work suffers. In reality, it is impossible to work on several tasks at the same time, because our brain shifts our attention from one task to another. <\/p>

              In a 1927 study, Russian psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik demonstrated that people remember interrupted tasks better than completed ones. In the frontal lobe of the brain, just behind the forehead, there is an area called Brodmann area 10. Many studies show that this is the area where a person can set aside a task, then return to it later and pick up right where they left off.
